The right therapist matters.
Choosing a therapist is a deeply personal decision. You deserve to work with someone who understands your story, respects your identity, and can guide you with both skill and compassion. Therapy works best when you feel safe, seen, and supported — and when the person across from you truly gets it.

Deborah Koons-Beauchamp, PHD, MBA, LMFT
I'm Dr. Deborah Koons-Beauchamp (she/her), a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with a PhD, MBA, and advanced training in EMDR and Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy. As a professor at Northern Illinois University, I have the privilege of training the next generation of Couple and Family Therapists.
My work is grounded not just in theory, but in life. I’ve lived through trauma, experienced a faith crisis and the process of rebuilding identity, and navigated the unraveling — and healing — of a relationship into a stronger, more authentic partnership. I spent many years as a single parent and have walked the road of raising children with love and resilience.
I am proudly affirming in my work with the LGBTQ+ community, offering support that honors each person’s truth and lived experience. Originally from Los Angeles, I now live in the Midwest with my partner, near our three young adult children, and our rescue pup, Binny. I feel most at peace when I’m near the water or outdoors — nature is my space for grounding and regulation.
My practice is a space for healing, discovery, and growth — and I’d be honored to walk alongside you.
